Souheir Zaki was born in Mansoura but soon moved Alexandria where she was later to start her career dancing in nightclubs. She is known for her meticulous ear for music and the natural simplicity and precision of her interpretation. She is also capable of dancing in a very small area.
She was the first to dance to Oum Kalthoum’s music. And also the first to dance on Egyptian television in 1959. ("Belly dancing" on television was later banned in the late 1980s)
She appeared in over 100 movies but acting did not appeal and she preferred just to dance.
