Hossam Ramzy was born to a privileged family in Cairo. His father was a medical academic and her mother (and her family) were artistically talented. As a boy, Hossam studied western music and jazz. He also spent some years in Saudi Arabia but finally moved to the UK to study jazz. It was not until 1980 that he returned to his roots and began playing the tabla. He has a made a number of music recordings (including "Rhythms of the Nile") and put out the "Stars of Egypt" video series showing clips of dancers from the Golden Age. Also see HossamRamzy.com |
