Aisha Ali was born in the USA of Egyptian and Italian parents. She started dancing in 1957. In 1971 she first traveled to Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria to document traditional dance and music. Subsequently she traveled throughout North Africa and has produced a series of videos and sound recordings. Her documentation of the Banat Maazin Ghawazee actually made the Egyptian Ministry of Culture re-evaluate their value. See also: www.aisha-ali.com |
